I have not thought that I would still work on it today. I only wanted to fix a rare bug where you could not progress anymore then I made some more tweaks, added some more sounds and then I had that idea with the bullet camera and it turned out to be much more tricky then I first thought.
Anyway, you can now view through the camera attached on your bullet simply by holding middle mouse, it greatly adds to the craziness when you reflect on the panels and then fly into your own head!

more...Shootmephrenia is now live - Go catch a bullet!
Shootmephrenica is a small experimental First Person Shooter game in which you have to shoot no one but yourself! You will find yourself in a glitched out mysterious world where your gun is the only consistence that can be trusted. Shoot on reflective panels to make your bullet ultimately come back to you and hit you in your ragdoll face for ultimate glory and for progressing to the next chunk of the glitchy world.
If you were following my progress, I have now also added the gun, some cool blood fx that also collides and sticks, some particles and shader fx for shooting and some basic sounds. The game ended up being pretty short with mostly easy level chunks. Still have lots of ideas, like different weapons like a grenade launcher for instance, destructible environment stuff, like obviously explosive barrels and glitchy anomalies, like slow down the bullet heavily. In any case, it was a great experience and I learned a lot of the Blueprint scripting and quirks of the new Unreal Engine. Even though I bumped into tons of problems.

Currently blocking in the gun. It is not a revolver because it has only room for one big bullet! The laser under the barrel will be very useful for killing yourself. I will make no high poly with it because I'm running out of time. Instead I make a something between high poly and low poly without normal map baking.
I also made a character, well, I cheated a bit. I just used the old sculpt I made of Jon Stewart and replaced his head. Sorry Jon, I needed your suit and also your body! Making the low poly (quick and dirty low poly), baking, texture setup and the rigging still required a lot of time though and I still need to give his skin a real paint job, he looks kinda unhealthy currently.
Here is he who will be also you: http://i.imgur.com/G2rnwHz.jpg
I run into problems with physics, problems that I never run into in the Unreal Engine 3. Here you can see what I mean:
It is now working mostly but the fingers are still giving me the finger quite often:
I'm still alive, just went down a rabbit hole. Got lost in making material FX, fixed some more issues, batch imported 50 props now and build a couple of basic "levels". Most importantly I still need a character, weapon and FPV arms. Also probably a name, how about "Shootmephrenic" or "I am I Left".

more...Dear Diary, today I killed myself.
...I stepped from one turd into the next one but then out of nowhere I finally managed to get myself killed!
There have been cryptic errors, forced context sensitive editor shenanigans, crashes, disappearing editor functionality and other weird things like debug lines that got stuck in the editor view. But now I'm finally dead. Here is the last known recording of me: https://twitter.com/TocoGamescom/status/531594441728196609
Buuuut I have made zero artwork yet! So I'm now gonna kill myself ...some more!

I'm making a game where you have to shoot yourself.
Sounds easy but I can ensure it will be not. First of all the weapon rotates with the body like it does in most FPS games so you can't just put the weapon to your head and pull the trigger! On the flipside the bullets are bouncing/reflecting while the environment will even make that hard (lots of space, few collisions). At least that is the plan.
This is my first game jam and the first time I'm using UE4. I dived into some blueprint some days before it though. If anyone here using Blueprint as well give me a shout, maybe we can share tips and tricks. Here is the blueprint math for reflecting: http://i.imgur.com/u1QsdW3.jpg I had to get some help for that myself.
For now I'm mostly experimenting will bullets and a laser.
- They slow down heavily when they come close so you can jump in your own bullet.
- They change direction when they come close and have only reflected once on a collision.
- There is a laser (pointer) on right mouse that reflects multiple times.
I will probably do lots of experimenting and then add real art later when I have some very small prototype levels. It is still very hard for a player to estimate reflections without the laser while the laser might make it too easy, so that is currently my biggest challenge. Figuring out the challenge when the goal is to kill yourself will be also not easy. Like: What is the game over then?
I better get back to doing stuff, good luck everyone!
