The System Requirements for Playing Quake Live

Provided that you have at least an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT graphics card you can play the game. Futhermore, an NVIDIA GeForce 6100 is recommended in order to run Quake Live™ with the highest settings. An Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz CPU is required at a minimum to run Quake Live™. However, the developers recommend a CPU greater or equal to an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 to play the game. You will need at least 1 GB of free disk space to install Quake Live™. By contrast, the game developers recommend somewhere around 2 GB of free disk space on your system drive.
