About
Press Kit available HERE if you're looking to write about Discoverie. UPDATE: PC, Mac and Linux builds now feature Oculus Rift support! YouTube playlist of our daily "wrap up" videos! For 7DFPS, Ben (@SunraHeadgear) and I (@klicktock) have developed the core concept for a (hopefully) much larger infinite voxel roguelike filled with secrets. We decided, against all better judgement to do an overly ambitious game. I would have been happy, at the end of the week, just to have a cool procedural world to walk around in (with maybe one enemy). However the gods of productivity smiled down upon us and we've been able to produce a fully fledged game. We want to produce a game that can be played alongside a wiki. I hope you share your experience with Discoverie with others. Feeling lost? That's OK. Watch the Day 7 wrap up video for a few hints on how to win the game. References: Proteus, Binding Of Isaac, FEZ, Terraria, The Legend Of Zelda, Spelunky, Minecraft, Sir You Are Being Hunted, Jon Blow's "Joy Of Discovery" rant, Looking Glass Software and many more. For the generation algorithm I cribbed from Sean Barrett's "Herringbone Wang" paper. The results are fantastic, though - if this is developed into a larger game, I have a more complicated "vertical" algorithm in mind.

HEADSHOT!

Performance slowly degrades. 1. Looks like I have some errant colliders without rigid bodies attached. I'll try to clean those up. 2. As a part of that the code I put in yesterday to turn off objects a long way away .. made the game slower! I'll spend some time on that too. 3. I need to add in box colliders, instead of the level mesh collider which I added for time. That will take longer than 1 & 2.

Absolutely love it. It's beautiful! Some of the enemies are so darn cute I felt bad for shooting them! D: Also, kinda hard to tell when you're getting damaged sometimes :( Other than that though, amazing, would love to see this turn into a full game

Yeah, it's rough around the edges, but I think we probably made the biggest game of 7DFPS 2013. Heh.

Really atmospheric!

Very cool, however I would recommend making the firing sound effect 2D rather than 3D so it doesn't always play in the right side of headphones.
klicktock says...
Yeah that's an easy fix. Will do.
Love the game. There's a wiki up at discoverie7dfps.wikia.com.
klicktock says...
The official wiki was already set up at http://discoverie.wikia.com.

I might try to get the optimisation in today. I had most of it done on Day 7, but it was too buggy to release.
Ben says...
Community made wiki! Aww!
klicktock says...
Optimization part 1 complete! Game now shouldn't sloow sloooow slooooooow down the more you play. You'll still see framerate stutter when a new room is created however.

This is pretty awesome! Thanks for providing a Linux build! :D I had a go at getting this running on my Rift under Linux, but didn't have much luck. The left eye was aligned lower than the right, and it wasn't picking up headtracking :( Have you done any testing of it or heard any other reports of it misbehaving?
klicktock says...
Some people were saying that headtracking wasn't working on some of their machines even on PC and Mac. I wasn't able to test the Linux version here, but the PC and Mac I had running here side by side. I'm using a slightly earlier (0.2.3) version of the Oculus Rift SDK as 0.2.4 had some other issues (such as incorrect background colour) which I couldn't fix in the 7 days. I'll take a look further and see if I can update the build. Thanks for letting me know :)
