About
** INCLUDES GLORIOUS STEREO VOICE ACTING! ** (but does not actually include any HUD elements) SYSTEM: "Visibility: low." GEORGE: "Groan..." A stroke of bad luck leaves you trapped in the middle of nowhere with a crack in your space marine suit and a fogged up visor. Water everywhere. And wouldn't you know it: your on-board computer is acting up. Some lights in the distance, but.. is it safe? Try to find out where you are, and get the hell out of there. Controls: Movement - mouse + WASD Wipe screen with hand - R Flashlight - L (not implemented in this build) My first Unity project, and not finished at all. But I like it, and I'm eager to expand on this. Expect better visuals, exploration, soundscapes, danger and most of all.... working HUD elements. Because at the moment it has none. So I should really change the title. For now. But I won't. Deal with it. Thanks to David B├╝hrer for help and advice!

The browser link led me to a download link instead of an embedded game for some reason.
Blue_Element says...
When I download the game for mac, it downloads a "content" folder with all the contents, but it's not playable at all.
Davyn Karan says...
Just the exe file, but no data... impossible to try
Blue_Element says...
Can you please fix it so everyone can actually play it?
bekokstover says...
Oops! I'm sorry! This is all due to me never before having exported from Unity. it was all working fine on my end, but maybe that's because I already had all the assets. But OK. I'm fixing it now!
Davyn Karan says...
Windows version is not fixed. We need a zip file with .exe and the data folder to launch the exe file. I want try it !
bekokstover says...
Yeah, I know - uploading now :)

The HTML link shouldn't lead to an FTP page, it should link to this: http://sjorshoukes.nl/Hudwalker/HUDWALKERweb001/HUDWALKERweb001.html
bekokstover says...
Ha ha, thank you all for the help. And your interest in this game. It should work now, but please still excuse the lack of content. :)

Like you say it's not complete, but it's a start. The visor wiping mechanic is an interesting one. A few games have done it prior (SW Republic Commando, Metro Last Light), but it has been mostly for cool factor than anything else. So binding that to gameplay somehow would be nice (Survival/horror elements?). But there is a lot to do and you could start with fixing the mask so that it doesn't clip through the terrain anymore. That's an easy task: Have a second camera for drawing the hud. Set it's Clear flags value to "Depth Only". Set it's culling mask to a single layer for instance "HUD" Set the layer of each object on the hud (the visor) to "HUD". Set the depth of the hud camera to one higher than that of the the first person camera. Done. Have fun learning stuff. Unity is great for that.
bekokstover says...
Yes, I have been having trouble with that mask. I'll try this soon. But this second camera, is it then drawn on top of the main camera? Of course the main thing about wiping the screen is that it doesn't do shit. It improves visibility slightly for a few seconds, but after that the player is resigned to the lights, and later, the meters in his dashboard. The game will have suspense, but very little action. More exploration/avoiding dangerous situations, when the player has no idea where he is or what's coming. Thanks a lot, HuvaaKoodia!
HuvaaKoodia says...
@bekokstover Yes, with a higher depth value the hud camera is draw above the main camera.

Hilarious, I loved it. Great voices.
vrav says...
I really love this idea.
Darkfrost says...
I like the idea! You should really add some audio cues in the level so you can navigate a bit better!
Cheeseness says...
Nice concept! :D Thanks for providing a Linux build :)

I must be doing something wrong: First of all, the gamr doesn't seem to register hitting the R key every time, but about once of every 4-5 keystrokes. also, wiping the helmet doesn't seem to do anything. I wiped the visor about 10 times, but the visibility always remained virtually zero. All I could do was stumbling blindly to and fro - I'm guessing that's not what this game is supposed to be about :) It seems to be a very accurate representation of what I would see in those circumstances (nothing) - but I'm not sure that's how I'm supposed to play the game. bio
bio says...
Checked the video - I've never been able to obtain that level of visibility for my helmet :(
bekokstover says...
To be honest, @bio, visibility is supposed to be low. The hand is not meant to be very useful. At that, I recognize it's rather badly implemented. I'll work on it!
It is kind of unplayable to me, I mean i get if your not supposed to see much, but i can latterly see nothing though the water on the helmet, in real life wiping that would at least make it go away for a couple of seconds... the only way i know where i'm going is from the lights of the truck, and ever then i seem to always go in the wrong direction... i'm not exactly sure what i'm supposed to do in the game, but i did hear from the robot guy that i was supposed to find the escape vehicle, from what i know, that could be the truck, but the truck does not do anything... so i'm literately wandering around not even sure IF i'm hitting a wall or going forward... it was really unbearable... basically, the hand wiping actually needs to wipe the helmet... instead of just making your hand go across the screen, it actually scared me once, because it was dark, i couldn't see, and then this figure just goes across my screen
